Today is the first day that students attend classes with their host sibling. We got our itinerary for Xi'an and the school schedule.
We were doing diamond painting of Peking opera characters. It is a big project. The goal is to finish it by the end of our stay in Xi'an and bring it home as a gift! Ms. Zhang also gave us an introduction of the history of Peking Opera. She has an amazing voice and will later teach us singing Chinese songs. Students were very focused when working on their diamond painting. Sydney was a little worried about her pace though.
Ms. Huang (Vivian) was introducing Chinese food culture. She taught the Chinese phrases which include food, such as "chi cu" (eat vinegar) which means being jealous and "xiao cai yi die" (a small plate of dish) which means a piece of cake.
There was a basketball game and a cheerleading competition in the afternoon. Students went to watch and support their classes. Can you find them in the pictures?
Playing badminton and ping pong with Chinese students during recess.
Our first Cooking class! We learned how make dumplings, both water-boiled and steamed. There is a difference in the dough.
Look at what we made! Those in the pot are steamed dumplings, and those in the bowls are water boiled. Yes, we finished all of them! Yummy, yummy!
Morning jog after the second period class. Can you find Anabelle and Sydney in the first picture, and Sam in the second picture?
Paper cutting class! We learned how to cut the "Fu" (Fortune) character. Xylah is holding Mackenzie's work in the picture.
Everybody is kungfu fighting~~ Two gym teachers taught students Tai chi.
This week Chinese students have Thursday to Saturday off for Qing Ming Festival and they will come back to school on Sunday and have a 6-day week. We will go to see the world famous Terra Cotta Warriors on Sunday and then have a normal 5-day week.
Sam and Juliana went on excursions with their host family on Qing Ming Festival. Students also spent one afternoon together doing karaoke with their host siblings. We went to the Terra Cotta Museum on Sunday and tried Xi'an food.
